Here at Dixie’s Paws & Claws, we believe that a balanced, healthy, all-natural pet food is crucial to the health and happiness of your four legged friend. That is why we offer a wide variety of natural, healthy selections of wet and dry food for you to choose from.
Your pets need a food in which meat is the main ingredient. Meat protein is not only much easier for pets to digest, it is also more biologically appropriate for their digestive systems. Dogs and cats were never meant to ingest foods containing large amounts of carbohydrates, like you find in pet foods made mainly of grains. Pet foods high in carbohydrates can also lead to pet obesity! It takes less animal protein than plant proteins (such as corn and soy) to provide your pet with the protein levels they need to live an active, healthy lifestyle; this means your pet can eat less, and still receive the nutrients they need.
Does your dog seem itchy, or sneeze a lot? Do you have issues with hairballs or vomiting/diarrhea? This could actually be a sign that your pet is allergic to its food! We also carry many types of hypoallergenic dog and cat food.
The most crucial tool in learning if your pet food is providing your pet with proper nutrients is to learn to read the labels. Many pet foods are labeled to make it appear that meat is the main ingredient, when in fact it is not. Often grains are split up into sub-types, allowing them to be weighed separately. Also, ingredients such as “meat by-products” may include meat which is unclean and doesn’t meet the AAFCO definition of “meat”.

If you’d like more information on pet allergies or how to read your pet food’s label, come on in and we’ll be happy to help you out!
